SingTel fills senior positions after reorganization

SINGAPORE: Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., Asia's fifth-largest phone company, said on Monday it has filled two new senior positions as part of reorganisation of some of its management.

SingTel said in a statement it has appointed Allen Lew, currently managing director of the consumer business at Optus, as chief executive of the firm's Singapore operations. Optus is the Australian unit of SingTel.

Chua Sock Koong will become the chief executive of SingTel's international business and also continue her current role as the group's chief financial officer. The executives will report to SingTel's group chief executive, Lee Hsien Yang.

"The new organisation structure will strengthen our three key businesses - Singapore, Australia and international business," Lee said in the statement.

The firm also said that Pat O' Sullivan, chief financial officer at Optus, had resigned and will be replaced by Jeann Low. Lim Chuan Poh will succeed Low as executive vice president of strategic investments, it said.

Lim Toon, SingTel's chief operating officer, will retire in early 2006, the firm said.

The new organisation structure will be implemented in February, 2006, it added.
