Singapore student takes home Code Jam accolades

HYDERABAD: Ardian K Poernomo, a student from Singapore, won the Google India Code Jam 2005, Google's first ever computer programming competition to find the best programming talent from India and South Asia.






Poernomo takes home an Rs three lakh first prize.





Indonesian student Pascal Alfadian who took home Rs two lakh bagged the seond place. The third place went to Chennai student Rajsekar Manokaran who won Rs 1,25,000 and Mumbai student Nishant Redkar stood fourth. Additional cash prizes totaling Rs 8,50,000 were distributed to the other 45 finalists.





In addition to celebrating the top programmers in the region, Google India also hopes that the competition will provide further opportunities to attract strong computer scientists to the new Google R&D center in Bangalore, which opened in early 2004. The competition opened to participants throughout Southern Asia on February 27, 2005 and attracted more than 14,000 registered participants from six countries.





Contestants competed online to qualify for the top 500 spots in the first round. These 500 qualifiers then battled for the 50 final positions. The 50 finalists were flown to the Google R&D Center in Bangalore for the championship round.
