Silicon Mountains advents new broadband technology

PUNE: Silicon Mountains (I) Ltd. (SMIL) along with its Business associate DiviNet Access Technologies Ltd, an enterprise promoted by leading R&D Engineers, has introduced a new broadband technology internally code named RAMNet — Remote Access Metropolitan Network.



RAMNet is positioned as a broadband access against Cable Modems and DSL technologies and is slated to succeed in view of its pricing competitiveness and simplicity coupled with its elegance of design based on mature and proven component technologies. The Major advantage of this technology is its quick deployment for the last mile with a spectrum of various Service Providers.



RAMNet will build an affordable and highly competitive access mechanism for Internet Telephony, Audio and Video using innovative technology. The product is targeted at home /SOHO / Business Houses /hospitality / Corporate / IT sectors enabling them to obtain high speed, low latency connectivity supporting multiple services. The major advantage of this technology is it’s quick deployability for the last mile through the partnership with local area level as well as city level.



SMIL was incorporated in Pune, India to provide broadband communication systems and interactive services focusing its business operation at the national and international level. SMIL is developing a project to provide Interactive Broadband services through Optic Fiber network. The company claims to be the first Application Service Provider in India to offer Broadband interactive Services through Optic Fiber Cable.



The company is providing Internet through Optic Fiber Cable Technique at the State and the national level, of course in a phased manner. For the first phase, the company proposes to cover existing customers for cables. The subscribers, who have taken connectivity to the RAMNet, can use the ISP of their choice. The subscriber will get authenticated from the ISP’s database directly. It will also provide localized services, which will include local e-commerce, distance education, gaming and other on-line city level services.



SMIL also provides pay per view digital TV channels and digital audio channels through RAMNet with the help of cable operators. RAMNet has a capability to build a high-speed citywide e-business network affordable even to small and tiny businesses. The product will be deployed in the city of Pune. The first batch of deployment will cover 1750 customers.
