Thunder is making a lot of noise these days. Tell us the strategy and expected impact that accompany it?
We are good at innovation when it comes to IT and many other areas around it. Change is happening at the information layer, application layer and presentation layer across the user cycle. If we continue to follow yesteryear’s practices, that’s not enough. All we are doing is an effort in the new direction because architecture is evolving like never before. Big data will play a big role as we move on and Cloud will have new interaction points. Flash is a big innovation. Industry has used it as a cache or storage but we are taking it to the next level inside the server. We will make ‘Thunder’ seamless with storage to enable mining data across tiers.
Big Data leads us to?
Use of social networking, explosion of data, information deluge etc is changing data at a great pace. Is this information being used to take real-time decisions and that too fast enough? EMC is trying to solve big data and cloud dynamics by four key lasting assets for a customer. Business processes and applications; people; information and big data. With VMware, RSA etc under our wings, we do storage, security and are partners with an intention to be on the larger part of the journey.
EMC has been opined to be a company that is reinventing itself significantly. How do you reorient yourself towards competition in the new world order?
We see ourselves as leading the thought. SAN, Flash, Hybrid, Cloud or Big Data, we have proven that. Big data is a big opportunity now. Customers themselves are transforming at a great pace and at a deeper level. Our objective is to help customers travel the transformation journey.
Has the equation between storage and Cloud changed to your advantage?
Organizations are moving to IT as a service and at the same time there are hosted servers too. Today’s world is about agility, speed and availability and we are excited to be here with our solutions and innovations that are happening continuously.
