It launched the country’s first Level 3 data center at the InfoTech Park in Vashi, Mumbai in September 2000 and subsequently invested in centers in Chennai and Bangalore with increasing levels of sophistication and capability, said a press release.

Sify said the Airoli center, spread across 100,000 sq.ft, is the first of its kind in India and would cater to the growing demand from India’s commercial capital, Mumbai.

P J Nath, executive president, Sify Enterprise Services, said, “The Airoli data center is a key facet of our strategy to develop the most sophisticated network and data center infrastructure in the country to facilitate the evolution and demand for services such as e-commerce, online banking, corporate ERP and other applications.”

He added that the new center would be followed by two more centers - in New Delhi and Bangalore, over the next eight quarters.

“The Airoli data center at an investment, when complete, of $36 million (Rs 150 crores) is a significant part of this process, and greatly strengthens our ability to deliver sophisticated services, now and in the future,” said Nath.

He said Sify’s total investment in data centers over the next two years is likely to be about $ 100 million (Rs 400 crores) to meet the growing demand for such services from both the domestic market and overseas markets.

For the past eight years Sify has been managing over 250 clients with over 99.99 per cent uptime at the centers in Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore, with international industry standards across verticals and horizontals, the release said.
