Sify plans wireless broadband

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Sify Technologies Ltd is planning to launch wireless broadband connectivity to "connect the unconnected."

On the launch of wireless broadband service, Raju Vegesna, chairman, managing director and CEO of the company, said, “We are currently offering broadband connection to our customers through cable operators. There have been problems being faced by our customer. We are now looking at improving our services.”

He added that the company has also revamped its call centers. With number of telecom operators venturing to offer Internet services, the market for Internet service providers is becoming more competitive.

“We are not talking about fiber here. We are talking about alternate wireless technology. We are talking about point-to-point connectivity,” Vegesna said.

“We are looking at open frequency and licensed frequency. It can also be unified mobility- WiMAX,” David Appasamy, chief communications officer, Sify said. However, he did not reveal about the frequency bands for offering this service.

Currently, there are three lakh Sify broadband subscribers. The company would be strongly focusing on the consumers business.

According to records, 60 to 65 per cent of the company’s overall revenue comes from enterprise customers and around 30 per cent from consumer business.

To revamp the entire business, the company has also launched a new logo changing it from the tradition blue color to florescent green.
