The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest organisation dedicated to human resource management, began its 2nd HR Technology Conference and Exposition in Mumbai yesterday. In the complex, and ever-changing space of HR Technology, a confluence like SHRM Tech’16 provides a stage to gain insights, inspiration, and tools that will enable to bring the best of technology to the practice of human resources.

The two-day conference is expected to host more than 650 delegates, 15-plus knowledge sessions, nearly 100 CHRES and business leaders and 40-plus expert-led tech demos. The conference, also the most powerful conglomeration of people, business and technology aims to showcase the most disruptive and innovative HR Tech Trends.

A welcome address by Ms. Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India kick-started the day, “We are extremely pleased to host the second edition of SHRM Tech conference, after the overwhelming success of the last year’s conference. It is SHRM’s endeavour to bring best minds on one platform where we can debate, discuss, and dissect evolving trends, key issues and challenges. I am hopeful that the engrossing keynote addresses, panel discussions, and expert-led demo sessions will provide in-depth insights to our valuable participants on the critical role of technology in shaping future of HR practices.”

This was followed by group sessions & panel discussions, where some of the eminent speakers including Jason Averbook, Thought Leader & Author; Kevin Freitas, Director, Global Recruiting and Rewards – InMobi; George Oommen, Dir HR, Tech. & Process Consulting – Cognizant; Animesh Kumar, Group Head - HR & Corp. Svs – IDFC; Viresh Oberoi, Founder CEO & MD – mjunction; Damodar Padhi, VP & Global Head, L&D – TCS; Abhijit Bhaduri, CLO – Wipro; Sid Bannerjee, CEO – Indusgeeks; Prithvi Shergill,CHRO - HCL Technologies, shared their insights on the growing trends and need of technology in HR.

Jason Averbook, Thought Leader, and Author, in his keynote address: HR Innovation in the Age of Technology talked about the need for rethinking HR strategy and processes to meet the requirements of the present-day workforce. He emphasised that the people, processes, and technology should work in tandem with organisational development.

In another engaging Panel discussion: HR Tech: Making it About the User Experience, panelists including Jason Averbook, Kevin Freitas, George Oommen and Madhura Dasgupta Sinha, discussed the changing role of Technology in HR.

The panel on Disruptive Learning: An eagle eye view with the likes of Damodar Padhi,; Abhijit Bhaduri, Sid Bannerjee, Prithvi Shergill, in a comprehensive dialogue, shared their insights and viewpoints on how technology can be harnessed to build a holistic learning environment.

Kevin Freitas, Director, Global Recruiting, and Rewards – InMobi, threw light on “How technology is driving hiring and what does the future entail or what really matters?” in a session named Master Class: Recruitment Redefined.

An expert-led demo session, Source, Screen, and interview the best tech talent followed discussion rounds where Hacker Rank’s automated CodeChallenges gave an in-depth insight into accelerated hiring.

The first day also saw SHRM India launching "Vendor community platform" in partnership with Start-board. The platform will help the two communities to effectively implement People focused strategy, and would work towards enhancing value for the HR Community.

Some interesting addresses and discussions are lined up for today that includes Tech Talk: Life & Work with Robots by Ritukar Vijay, Robotics & Tech. Leader - The hi-Tech Robotics Systemz, Panel discussions on Creating and Managing a Digital Workforce and What's up with Wearables? and a Study Launch that will highlight Workplace Stress-Impact & Outcomes.
