BANGALORE, INDIA: India has been witnessing a host of developments in information technology over the years. Every citizen of India is part of that amazing growth story as each one has perceived change as it has happened. But the same waves of change have opened the gate to enormous opportunities, thereby building a wide gap between expectations and end-results.

Bridging those gaps calls for a collective effort. Hence this CIOL's initiative on agenda for change is gathering opinions of industry leaders on what exactly is wrong with the present system and what is required to change it.

Listing his priorities, Pratap Gharge, CIO of Bajaj Electricals, says: "Ensure inclusive growth by using technology to impact lives of masses."

He believes development of IT solutions will improve the productivity and efficiency in all aspects.

"India has traversed a long way in economic development. It may not have been structured as an intellectual sees but there has been growth in different dimensions. The rising power of money amongst middle class has changed the thinking pattern in society," he says.

He lauds penetration of mobile phones in every walk of life, but he rues low penetration of knowledge of IT in every sector.

According to him, what is essential is training, brainstorming and handholding in adoption of IT. "Good governance will be visible in lower strata of society only through IT. RTI is a big leap into the right to freedom. IT's role in it is commendable," he says.

Prakash Pradhan, Suresh and Pratap Gharge are attending C-Change, business technology conclave, being organised by CIOL and Dataquest in Bangalore from February 21 to 23.
