Sequoia Capital to invest $1.8 bn in Indian firms

PANAJI, GOA: Sequoia Capital, a leading venture capital company, has $800 million left in funds that were earmarked for investment in Indian companies. The company is looking to invest partially or full amount of this fund in Indian software companies.

“We have earmarked $1.8 billion for investment in Indian companies across four different sector in India. Out of this $1.8 billion, we have invested $1000 million so far in close to 50 Indian companies and $ 800 million is left for investment,” said Sumir Chadha, managing director, Sequoia Capital India Advisors in an interaction with CIOL on the sidelines of Innovate-an industry event organized by GlobalLogic recently.

“Depending on the business case, we are looking for partial or full investment of this money in Indian software companies,” he added.

Sequoia Capital has planned investment of $1.8 billion under management across three venture capital funds and two growth capital funds in India.

Over the last nine years, Sequoia Capital has invested in more than fifty companies in India. Some of the company’s major investments include $20 million in Micromax, $15 mn in K-12 Techno Services, $13 million in IMI Mobile, etc. The major global names where the company has invested include technology giants such as Cisco Systems, Oracle, Apple, YouTube and Google
