The February numbers stood at $22 billion as against January 2010 figures of $22.3 billion.

Figures released by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reveal that sales during the month grew by 56.2 per cent as against the same period last year when sales were $14.1 billion.

According to the SIA, the February sales reflect continued recovery of sales of semiconductors, with demand principally driven by growth in sales of electronic products in emerging economies.

PCs and cell phones, the main drivers, are now projected to grow in 2010. The 56per cent year- on-year growth may be seen as auguring well for the industry.

It has been pointed out by SIA that January and February of 2009 had marked the low point for the semiconductor industry during the worldwide economic downturn.

Now, with signs of a global economic recovery, the industry is optimistic that there is upside potential for growth.
