BANGALORE: Select Technologies, the Bangalore-based networking company, acquired recently by WeP Peripherals Ltd, has entered into a strategic alliance with Entersys Networks to network vertical enterprises with the latter’s wireless LAN products, Matrix switches, and Xpedition routers.

Though excess capacities in the US market and global downturn have reduced the growth rates of communication products elsewhere, the market potential in the Indian sub-continent has been quite opposite with public and private enterprises in diverse verticals migrating to wireless networks for increasing their productivity and reduce the cost of operations.

"We are also targeting the SME (small & medium enterprises) and SOHO (small office home office) segments which are in the transition mode to wireless networks for reducing the cost of ownership, increasing return on investment, and improving their efficiencies," said Select CEO Byju Pillai.

With network storage and network security becoming mission critical to large enterprises and corporates on account of their pan-Indian presence or operations, Select will drive Enterasys suite of products and solutions to emerge as a leading player in the Indian market, and take on global network major Cisco for a level-playing competition.

"Apart from private enterprises in different verticals, public sector undertakings and government organizations have started investing heavily in wireless networking products and solutions to meet the growing demand for their utility services," Pillai stated.

Even core sectors such as railways, defence, air/sea ports, education, and R&D institutions have begun to invest in network security and storage areas for augmenting their portfolio of services and improving interface with their expanding customer base.

For instance, Enterasys’ new matrix N7 and N3 switches will not only enhance performance levels of enterprises with advanced features and low entry cost, but also enable them to utilize the networks to step up productivity and control operational costs at the same time.

"Our distributed architecture creates a high-capacity secured network to offer enterprise-wide management and scalability with reliability. With the increase in demand for value added services from the enterprise network, organizations are looking at cost-effective switches and routers," claimed Enterasys country manager Uday Birje.

By bundling its distributed networks with wire-speed switching, the matrix N series products eliminate costly control elements and monolithic structures that are common in centralized switching solutions.

Besides setting a new standard for enterprise switches, the N series sets can scale up to 1.68 terra bytes per second (tbps) of switching capacity.
