With a width of 9mm and 2.5 inch external drive design, Seagate claimed the hard disc to be the world’s slimmest external drive. GoFlex Slim is about 38 per cent leaner than its previous version and roughly appears slim as a pencil.

The 320 GB drive comes with USB 3.0 support with a speed of 7200 RPM. However, it is fully compatible with USB 2.0. It is available in the market for Rs. 4500.

According to Rajesh Khurana, Seagate’s country manager - India & SAARC, the GoFlex Slim hard drive is for the segment of users or people who like to use stylish products.

“Today, people are using various applications like Facebook and mobile devices, so the demand of external storage has grown tremendously. In India, the external storage market is growing exponentially. The Indian market is a big and important market for Seagate,” said Khurana.

The GoFlex Slim portable drive also allows for use between Windows and Mac computers, interchangeably, without formatting or performance loss. Additionally, the premium backup software of the drive provides automatic and continuous backups and encrypts files and folders.

“The continued growth of personal digital media stores, our increasing mobile lifestyles and the continued proliferation of mobile devices are driving the demand for slimmer, more portable storage solutions,” said Khurana.

According to a market survey, Seagate is considered as the number one storage drive vendor in India, he said. Though the company didn’t share India business figures, it said that the APAC region contributes around 53 per cent of its total business and during the past five years the business has grown at CAGR of 14 per cent in this region.
