For Gen 7 and larger areal shipments, Asahi Glass Company (AGC) captured 20.3 percent market share and Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) took 15.7 percent, both moving past Corning for the #2 and #3 positions. These results were revealed in DisplaySearch's Q407 Quarterly LCD Glass Substrate Report.

In Q307, SCP maintained its #1 position in overall glass area shipments with a 29 percent share, down from 30 percent. SCP is the dominant supplier for Samsung's L7 fab and supplies slightly less than half of all glass demand from LPL, but lost share mostly to NEG and partly to AGC.

Corning maintained its #2 position for overall TFT LCD glass areal shipments in Q307 with a 28 percent share. It lost ground at TMDisplay and Wintek, while gained ground at Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT), HannStar and InfoVision.

AGC took the #3 position overall with a 20.6 percent market share, declining only 0.3 points in Q307. Of note, AGC captured 80 percent of CMO's Gen 7 fab, more than half of AUO's Gen 7 glass demand and slightly less than a 50 percent share of Sharp's Gen 8 demand in Q3-07.

"NEG was the surprise AMLCD glass substrate supplier in Q307. Although #4 in overall AMLCD glass substrate areal shipments in Q3?07, NEG gained the most share, up 2.2 points to 17.8 percent," noted Jin Kim, Director of TFT LCD Market Research. NEG experienced significant increases at AUO, InfoVision and Wintek.

Of note, NEG was the top supplier for LPL's G7 fab with more than a 50 percent share and was the top supplier for LPL overall in Q307. NEG overtook AGC as the #2 overall supplier for Gen 6 and larger glass due to its strong position at AUO and LPL.
