SCM expands at Walmart Canada

OHIO, USA: WalmartCanada has signed a five-year extension to its contract with Supply Chain Management (SCM), an Excel company.

The contract would now go up to 2013 and would cover dedicated transportation, logistics and value-added services to Walmart’s 312stores and super centers across the country in Canada.

SCM operated five distribution centers totaling five million square feet to support Walmart’s ambient supply chain. Products handled within the facilities include general merchandise, dry grocery items and imports as per a press report.

SCM also coordinates all outbound transportation activities and directs a regionally dedicated fleet of150 tractors and 350 drivers delivering products from distribution centers to Walmart stores.

Notably, SCM was acquired by Exel in 2004 and operates multiple distribution centers in Mississauga and Cornwall, Ontario, and Calgary,Alberta.

In the report, Dan Gabbard, president of SCM, added, “We strive to identify efficiencies that contribute to Walmart’s bottom line, so it can continue to serve millions of Canadians and grow its business.”
