SecureMMC memory cards provide secure removable storage for handheld electronic devices such as PDAs, digital cameras, mobile phones and MP3 players. The addition of a chip with full security functionality enables encrypted or protected files, such as those secured by Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology, to be stored on the card alongside royalty free content.

By combining smart card security and multimedia technology in one device, SecureMMC addresses both the security requirements of content owners and the desire of consumers for mobile access to more, and more varied content.

SCM’s software drivers help create a host environment for SecureMMC memory cards with the aid of the native SD slot or an external SCM reader. The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA), which oversees standardization activities for removable storage media, sponsored the development of the drivers to speed the acceptance of SecureMMC in the marketplace.

“SecureMMC supports our increasingly mobile digital lifestyle by meeting the growing demand for a secure way to share protected content. It is the ideal way to store DRM content on memory cards used in cell phones, notebooks or PDAs, for example,” said Victor Tsai, Marketing Committee chairman of the MultiMediaCard Association. “SCM has shown its proven expertise in Windows System Software and has demonstrated leadership over the years in developing readers for new digital media as it evolves.”

The software complies with ISO 7816 smart card standards and is available for MMCA member companies. SCM is currently the only licensed provider for Microsoft WHQL certified SecureMMC drivers in Windows XP, and provides drivers for Windows Mobile 5.0.
