BANGALORE: Wipro was all set to welcome the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder
and left no stone unturned to make it a memorable visit for him. The 'Floating
Learning Center', a three-tier man-made lake and an 800-seat capacity
amphitheater were readied in less than 90 days for the Chancellor's visit.
Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro, had invited the Chancellor personally to
visit Wipro during his visit to Germany in September. Visiting Wipro, Schroeder
said, "We have heard about India's achievements in the fields of IT,
communication and software development, which is a success worldwide. We can
learn from you." He added that he looks forward to seeing more Wiproites in
Germany.
Addressing the gathering, he said, "The world economy is getting
integrated and more and more exchange is needed. We should jointly send a signal
to the world that only in a peaceful world economy can prosper, and global
division of labor can happen only if it is a peaceful world."
Welcoming the Chancellor, Premji said, "We are very pleased that he has
taken time off his hectic schedule to visit Wipro as his visit not only
reinforces but also enhances Wipro's business relationships in Germany."
The floating center is Wipro's e-learning initiative and is built on an area
of 21 acre of land, and can house 2,400 employees.
