SC issues notice to Satyam officials

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to B Rama Raju and other former Satyam Computers officials on a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking an extension of two months for completion of trial in the accounting fraud involving the company.

The apex court bench of Justices Balbir Bhandari and Deepak Verma directed the tagging of the CBI application along with the plea by four former Satyam officials seeking bail.

The court said the notice on the CBI plea seeking a two-month additional time for completion of trial is returnable in two weeks.

The four Satyam officials had sought bail from the apex court September 16. Rama Raju, former managing director of Satyam Computers, is the brother of B Ramalinga Raju, former chairman of the company.

The Satyam Computer Services Ltd. accounts fudging case is one of India's biggest corporate scams. The Supreme Court on October 26, 2010 had directed a Hyderabad-based court to hold trial on a day-to-day basis and complete it before July 31, 2011.
