The first private Internet Service Provider in the country - Satyam Infoway Ltd. ruled out

any further cut in Internet tariff unless the state owned Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. offers

to slash its price.

Mr. Pradeep Lakshmanan, Vice-President, Internet sales said that Satyam being the pioneers
in the Internet business would not go for a price war even if other providers including

MTNL and private players do the same, but would think of slashing Internet subscription

fee only if VSNL cuts down its charges. He also said that from the current 55000

subscribers spread in over 17 cities in India, Satyam is aiming at a subscriber base of

two lakh in the current fiscal and would reach more than 50 cities by the year-end. In

addition, the company will also offer access to 70,000 computer students of Indira Gandhi

National Open University.

He further added, that the services would further improve and would come out with new
packages in the near future, including e-commerce facility in large scale and value

additions. They are aiming at a national reach while offering easy access to people and to

take head on with the state-owned service providers.
