Satyam certified for BS 7799 Information Security Standards

BANGALORE: Satyam Computer Services has announced that its Hyderabad-based

centers have been certified under the internationally recognized BS 7799 Part

2:1999 Information Security Standards.

The BS 7799 Part2:1999 certificate is issued by STQC, Directorate Ministry of

Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, the

accreditation authority for companies in India, which is the first certification

body in the country to offer ISMS Certification Services. Besides this, India

will be the first country in the world outside UK and Netherlands, to offer such

accredited certification services.

Information security policies and controls are a vital means of protecting

data and knowledge, housed in various forms and media across organizations. Many

organizations establishments have expressed the need to have a common standard

on best practices for information security management. They would like to be

able to implement information security controls to meet their business

requirements as well as for their business relationships with other

organizations companies. These organizations see the need to share the benefits

of common best practice at an international level to ensure that they can

protect their business processes and activities to satisfy business needs.

The guidance given in BS 7799 Part2:1999 provides a single reference point

for identifying the range of security controls needed for most situations where

Information Systems are used in industry and commerce and may therefore be

applied by a wide range of organizations, large, medium and small. BS 7799

Part2:1999 certification has given Satyam an internationally recognized

structured methodology to evaluate, implement, maintain and manage information

security.
