Satyam bags Asean’s biggest airport order

BANGALORE: India’s fourth largest software exporter, Hyderabad based Satyam Computer Services Limited has signed a $8 million with the New Bangkok International Airport- Airport Information Management System (NBIA-AIMS).



Satyam is part of a consortium, ASIS (Airport System Integration Specialists) led by Siemens, whose other members are ABB, ABB Airport Technologies, and Samart, a Thailand based company, which bagged this order.



According to the agreement, the order translates to design, development and integrating airport information management systems planned for the New Bangkok International Airport christened as the ‘Suvarnabhumi’ Airport. It is expected to be operational by September 2005. On commissioning, it is expected to be the largest in Asean.



The first phase of the contract for the consortium members involves design and development of the core and operational systems to be followed by the development of business and administration systems.



Satyam’s Senior Vice President and Head of Asia Pacific Operations Virender Aggarwal said, "This assignment fortifies Satyam’s leadership in the Asia Pacific region. Satyam sees tremendous dynamism in Thailand with the kingdom’s recent focus on knowledge and service industries. Thailand shall continue to be a key focus market for Satyam and this mega win shall further strengthen our commitment to the Thailand market. Satyam already has a strong customer base in Thailand with global and local customers like GE, GM, and IEC Thailand." 



Satyam shall be primarily responsible for integrating the various systems using the webMethods integration platform and also for the design and development of the Information Kiosk for the entire airport. The complete range of systems is expected to be deployed before June 2005.



GB Prabhat, Director, Satyam’s Consulting and Enterprise Solutions said, "This deal is a reflection of Satyam’s capabilities in the consulting and high end solutions. It signals a new phase of growth for Satyam’s Consulting and Enterprise Solutions division in engaging in complex opportunities and in deploying leading edge technologies."
