SAP NetWeaverâ„¢
Press Fact Sheet
SAP NetWeaverâ„¢ is a platform that is the technical foundation of mySAPâ„¢
Business Suite solutions, SAP® xApps™ packaged composite applications,
partner solutions and customer custom-built applications. SAP NetWeaver provides
the technology to enable Enterprise Services Architecture and thereby functions
as a composition platform so that customers can flexibly and rapidly design,
build, implement and execute new business strategies and processes. SAP
NetWeaver embraces Internet standards such as HTTP, XML and Web services,
ensuring openness and interoperability with Microsoft .NET and Java 2 Platform
Enterprise Edition (J2EE) environments such as IBM WebSphere.
SAP NetWeaver Components and Tools
SAP NetWeaver comprises the following seven components and three development
and management tools:
Components:
- SAP® Auto-ID Infrastructure senses and controls automated signals in
real time and connects directly with business processes that require signal
data to drive faster and better business decisions. One of the first
applications of SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure is the integration of radio
frequency identification (RFID) technology with supply chain processes, which
allows companies to rapidly respond to market needs and capitalize on new
opportunities.
- SAP® Business Intelligence gives companies the capabilities they need
- SAP® Enterprise Portal provides customers with a unified view of
critical information across disparate applications and IT environments. It
allows companies to easily access business-critical, integrated information
from SAP and non-SAP applications, data warehouses, desktop documents,
internal and external Web content and collaboration tools. The latest version
of SAP Enterprise Portal offers enhanced functionality, improved multiplatform
support and localization features to help customers drive more value from
their technology investments. - SAP® Exchange Infrastructure provides open integration technologies
that support process-centric collaboration among SAP and non-SAP applications,
both within and beyond enterprise boundaries. When components that support
business processes are spread across heterogeneous systems, changes to those
components become expensive. SAP Exchange Infrastructure reduces the costs of,
and removes the barriers to, true integration. - SAP® Master Data Management provides the foundation for harmonized,
consistent information that can be provided to client applications across the
enterprise. It enables companies to store, augment and consolidate master data
while ensuring consistent distribution to all systems and applications in the
IT infrastructure. - SAP® Mobile Infrastructure is the technical foundation for enterprise
mobility within SAP NetWeaver and powers SAP solutions for mobile business.
Using SAP solutions for mobile business, employees can access and update
business-critical information wherever and whenever they need it and work
anywhere in both connected and disconnected modes. - SAP® Web Application Server brings together a proven infrastructure
with the interoperability and flexibility of Web services technology. It
provides comprehensive life-cycle management from design, development and
deployment to continuous change. The result is an application server that
delivers low total cost of ownership, reliability, scalability and security
essential to enterprise-scale solutions, as well as the openness and
interoperability needed to extend business processes across enterprise
boundaries.
to identify, integrate and analyze disparate business data from heterogeneous
sources as well as analytics capabilities for supporting real-time decisions
to forward the success of an organization. SAP Business Intelligence provides
data-warehousing features, reporting and analysis tools, best-practice models,
analytics applications and administrative resources. It is extensible and
adaptable to changing business needs and includes tools and interfaces for
enhancing and extending business content or integrating with third-party
analysis and reporting tools.
Development and Management Tools:
- SAP® Solution Manager is a centralized solution management toolset
that helps companies implement, operate, monitor and support their SAP
solutions. SAP Solution Manager facilitates technical support for distributed
systems, with functionality that covers all key aspects of solution
deployment, operation and change request management for continuous
improvement. It combines tools, content and direct access to SAP to increase
the reliability of solutions. - SAP® Composite Application Framework provides a robust environment for
the design and use of SAP xApps composite applications that comply with
Enterprise Services Architecture. SAP Composite Application Framework comprises
design tools, methodologies, services and processes, an abstraction layer for
objects and user interface and process pattern libraries. - SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio is an integrated development environment
(IDE) based on the open Eclipse IDE, to support developers in creating
enterprise-ready Java solutions on the SAP NetWeaver platform.
SAP NetWeaver Capabilities:
- Comprehensive business-ready platform. SAP NetWeaver serves as the
business-ready, services-oriented platform for SAP solutions. The platform
delivers integration on multiple levels: people (enterprise portal, mobile
infrastructure), information (data warehousing, knowledge management, master
data management) and business processes (exchange infrastructure). All of
these components run on SAP Web Application Server. - Lower TCO, open and flexible. SAP NetWeaver is a completely integrated
platform that enables further business integration within heterogeneous
environments, allowing for higher return from existing investments. Designed to
be interoperable with other platforms, SAP NetWeaver does not require
replacement of these platforms. Customers can thus better leverage technical
assets and skills in the corporation. SAP NetWeaver integrates into existing IT
systems, from file systems to comprehensive business applications (SAP and
non-SAP). - Support for Web services. SAP NetWeaver is unique in its ability to
support enterprise-scale Web services through Enterprise Services Architecture.
Flexible enough to leverage applications across all corners of the enterprise
and partner communities, SAP NetWeaver extends the value of existing IT
solutions while providing a powerful level of security, scalability and
manageability. - Support for SAP xApps. SAP NetWeaver also enables SAP xApps that drive
business innovation and execution. SAP xApps snap on to existing IT
environments, extend functionality throughout an enterprise and reduce costs of
integration-including costs of consulting or custom-development projects-by
delivering integration solutions as software products. Designed to integrate
easily with existing legacy systems and new applications, this future-proof
solution guarantees that SAP xApps will not only conform to, but also remain
viable in, a constantly changing business infrastructure, helping customers
positively impact their bottom-line business process management.
Support for Developer Community
To support adoption of SAP NetWeaver, Enterprise Services Architecture and
the development of new SAP xApps, SAP established SAP Developer Network in
September 2003. Since then, more than 130,000 developers have joined the
community, with more than 9,000 using the resource daily. SAP Developer Network
facilitates the transfer of knowledge and information between developers inside
and outside SAP by providing technical articles, Web training, code samples,
evaluation tools, special interest groups and developer-specific events, in
addition to detailed technical reference materials.
Moving forward, SAP will be evolving the SAP NetWeaver platform into a
Business Process Platform that has the ability to execute ready-to-run business
processes.
