With the new approach, SAP said it's doing away with its conventional upgrade process for software applications. Business Suite 7 represents the most current versions of SAP's business applications, including those for managing supply chains, product life cycles, and customer relations, among others.

According to Vinay Iyer, vice president, Global Solutions Marketing, SAP, the new software enables enterprises to seemplessly integrate different applications and customers will then be able to pick and choose from this "enhancement package" as little or as much as they want.

The SAP vice president said that large enterprises are skeptical of IT projects that involve foundational investments that aren't tied to delivering fast value to users, he said adding that "Big projects that only promise a foundation for future value delivery are too risky, too costly, and the benefits are difficult to justify to business leaders. Enterprises want integrated IT solutions that require only investment that is tied to immediate business value—but without losing the cost, information integrity and process integrity benefits that a strategic suite provides."

"In the present economic environment, Indian companies are striving to improve efficiencies across all areas of their businesses in order to remain highly competitive.  With the new SAP Business Suite 7, Indian companies are empowered to quickly embrace change in a step-wise manner and deploy only those solutions that matter most, while closely managing risks and costs," said Iyer. He further added that the the combined power of modularly deployable end-to-end business processes and embedded analytics offers customers the flexibility, agility and insight to achieve rapid business efficiencies.

The suite announcement also includes industry-specific software modules SAP is developing to help companies analyze a specific issue, such as the shopping experience in the retail industry, by viewing data across applications, or implement a business process across applications, such as collaborative engineering, in the manufacturing industry. This approach uses dashboard and other technologies incorporated from SAP's Business Objects acquisition.

The latest offerings and the switch from upgrades to enhancement packages are intended to help customers cut IT costs and resource requirements, while also improving business flexibility and insight during these tough economic times, said Ramakrishna Yarlapati, SVP, Business Suite Core, SAP Labs India.
