Sankalp readies for X-Stream XML launch

BANGALORE: Sankalp Infotech Pvt. Ltd. of Bangalore is all set to launch its

first software product, X-Stream XML, which converts HTML files to XML or WAP (WML) files depending on browser compatibility. The gateway utility of the new product is designed to receive the request of the URL and respond with an equivalent XML output. It is multi-threaded, can handle any number of requests and has a log feature to keep track of the files converted.

Speaking about the first product of the company, its CEO Madhu Kaushik said,

"X-Stream XML is a stand-alone application where the developer can convert

his HTML files to XML files and view them. If he is not satisfied with the

output XML display, he can make the relevant changes to the original HTML file

and pass it to the X-Stream Developer version. This utility has a ranking

feature using which a user can rank the content in the HTML page."

The developer version has the facility to convert a single file or all the

files in a particular directory. It also has a provision where the links in the

HTML page are changed to XML extensions if the file is in the current conversion

directory." Sankalp has planned a worldwide launch of the product by

November 2000. There is yet another product in the pipeline, a content

management tool to be launched by January 2001and a telecom application by next

March. The company has signed a 20-year agreement with 999Send Systems Inc.

North America, for developing products for the Internet.

The company, which began operations in March this year, projects a turnover

of Rs 3.5 crore for the fiscal year. With the launch of the 3 new products,

Sankalp expects its revenue to increase to Rs 70 crore in 2001-02. Commenting on

the company’s aggressive plans for the coming years, B S Shivakumar,

Director-Finance, said, "In just 8 months of operation, we have built up a

team of 42. The company is also scouting for VC funding of around $1

million."

Sankalp, which has two divisions, product development and software services,

plans to hive one of them into an independent company at a later date.
