Samsung to open source 'Bada' OS : WSJ

BANGALORE, INDIA: Samsung Electronics Co. today announced that it will open source its own operating system 'Bada' next year, The Wall Street Journal reported.

According to the company website, Bada is a Korean word that means "ocean" and "seashore", is a proprietary operating system targeted at smartphone market.

The South Korean company added that, it has plans to open source its platform to developers and device makers in an attempt to promote its operating system.

According to a person familiar with the situation Samsung is planning to make Bada software an open source platform next year, the journal added.

The report added that South Korean company has no plans to buy a software company.

A newsletter posted by a Samsung developer on the Internet had invited Symbian developers to join the Bada team to showcase their talent after the Nokia announced to replace Symbian operating system with Windows mobile OS in the month of March 2011.

Till now Samsung has been using the Google Android operating systems in its tablets an smart phones, which includes Galaxy S and its latest Galaxy S2.
