SEOUL, S. KOREA: Samsung Electronics said Tuesday that it has stronger interest in expanding the market for solid state drives (SSDs) because the enterprise and consumer SSD markets are gaining more traction in data centers and cloud storage.
The Korean Times reports that Samsung, which is the world's top manufacturer in computer memory chips both in DRAMs and NAND flashes to be used in all computing devices, plans to offset worries over a decline in profitability in its smartphone business by flexing its muscle in SSDs.
SSDs based on NAND flash technologies have been regarded as the heir apparent to conventional hard disk drives (HDDs), promising to revolutionize the PC user experience with improved speed and reliability.
Samsung's aggressive new marketing slogan - 2014 Samsung SSD Global Summit - introduced in the Hotel Shilla, Thursday, implies that its apparent interest in bringing SSDs to the widest possible audience of consumers, basically everyone."Samsung SSDs have increased durability, energy efficiency and high performance. We believe the global demand for SSDs will rise by more than 30 percent this year," said Kim Un-soo, head of brand product marketing division at Samsung's memory business division, during the event.
SSD is widely being used in data centers as it's required to boost speed and guarantee durability in processing huge data. Simply put, SSD is much faster in SSD.
