NEW DELHI: For quite some time now, rumors have been going around in the Delhi market about Samsung's impending launch of branded PCs. Market players have been musing about this newfound strategy of Samsung to place it as a PC essentials company. Samsung meanwhile is busy positioning the website www.buildurpc.com as a one stop PC building place with this new marketing initiative of Samsung powered PCs.

However, various resellers are saying that Samsung is planning to launch a branded PC in the market. Anil Sachdeva, Director, Kadam Marketing is still speculating about Samsung's venture into its own branded PCs. "As far as I know, there are rumors that Samsung would be launching its PCs soon in the market, though we are still skeptical about this new venture," he said.

PK Sharma, Director, Comnet Vision was tight lipped about this new venture but when probed he also spoke about the branded PC.

When contacted, Moninder Jain, National Marketing Manager, Samsung Electronics was surprised about this confusion in the market. "We have just extended the brand positioning for our website. Now a visitor can log on to the website, configure a PC and get in touch with our listed dealer/assembler for a PC to be assembled and this PC will have a sticker `Samsung Powered PC'. This is our new strategy to accentuate the fact that Samsung contributes 70 percent of any PC," he said.

He strongly refuted the rumors that Samsung would like to launch a branded PC. "This is ridiculous. Why would we want to launch a branded PC? The channel community is getting confused about this new brand positioning for assembled PCs. I would like to reiterate the point that Samsung has no branded PC of its own. Rather, it is the Samsung powered PC," he added.
