Samsung launches new high-end cell phone

NEW DELHI: Samsung Electronics India Information Ltd. (SEIIT), hundred per

cent subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Korea, launched SGH T100 handset,

which comes equipped with a TFT LCD screen.

Priced at Rs 32,000, the new phone weighs 94 gms. It also comes equipped with

many features which includes a dual LCD display (TFT color LCD, 4096 color),

Class 8 GPRS, 8 hours of talktime and 180 hrs of standby time, 128 x of 160

pixels display, blue lit keypad, 4096 colors, 16 tone melody, special WAP key,

WAP Browser, Call management, Calendar, note function, alarm function, dual

folder, sleek aerodynamic design.






Though other product launches scheduled later in the year include the SLH X590,
SGH A-500, and SGH V-100 handsets, the True i is the biggest launch this year,

informed Rajiv Sethi, Marketing head, SEIIT. Of its international kitty of nine

products, currently six are available in India.






The company is also investing $ 1 million in its ‘Samsung Talkies’ chain —
a series of dedicated retail outlets across the country. Six such outlets have

already been opened in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, a further four are in the

pipeline.



Currently having a market presence of 80,000 units in India, Samsung Telecom
(both in the CDMA & GSM categories) expects to emerge the leader by 2003.

Further $ 5 m will be pumped in by the company to the same effect. It is also

planning a foray into L3 repairs, which would mean the highest level of repair

services. Product introduction at all tiers and enhanced channel management are

also in the pipeline.






With these initiatives, Samsung hopes to catapult to the numero uno position by
2003. It’s current marketshare being to the tune of 25 per cent.
