All eyes are now on the Mobile World Congress, 2013, scheduled early next year, where rivals Samsung and Apple Inc are expected to showcase their new smartphones - Galaxy S IV and iPhone 5S respectively.

Samsung's Galaxy S IV is rumored to come with a 4.99 inch full HD Super AMOLED display, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels while Apple has given no indication of moving ahead of its Retina display.

AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) is a display technology for use in mobile devices and televisions. OLED describes a specific type of thin-film display technology in which organic compounds form the electrolum inescent material, and active matrix refers to the technology behind the addressing of pixels.

As of 2012, AMOLED technology is used in mobile phones (Galaxy SIII, Google Nexus phone), media players and digital cameras, and continues to make progress toward low-power, low-cost and large-size (for example, 40-inch) applications.

GSM ARENA reports that Galaxy S IV would feature a 13-megapixel camera, a significant upgrade over the Galaxy S III's 8-megapixel rear shooter.

Apple's latest iPhone 5 has Retina display (4-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display 1136x640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi800:1 contrast ratio (typical) 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical); Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously.

Retina Display is a brand name used by Apple for liquid crystal displays which they claim have a high pixel density that the human eye is unable to notice pixelation at a typical viewing distance.

The term is used for several Apple products, including the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and MacBook Pro. As the typical viewing distance would be different depending on each device's usage, the pixels per inch claimed as retina quality can be different for the smallest devices (326, iPhone and iPod Touch): greater than the mid-sized devices (264, iPad) and greater than the larger devices (220, MacBook Pro).

The displays are manufactured by different suppliers. Currently, the iPad's display comes from the same suppliers Samsung use while the Macbook Pro displays are mostly made by LG's suppliers, along with the iPhone and iPod Touch displays.
