SEOUL: Hewlett-Packard will ask South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. to increase supplies of memory chips and flat screens this year to meet rising demand as more personal computers are replaced, the Yonhap News said.

The U.S. computer maker's chief executive Carly Fiorina will meet Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee to forge closer cooperation in chip supply and other digital technologies, the paper said, citing sources close to the matter.

Samsung, the world's largest memory chip maker, is expected to export more than one trillion won ($869.5 million) worth of memory chips and other products to Hewlett-Packard this year, the report said.

Samsung officials could not be reached for comment.
