Sachin Tendulkar opens innings on Twitter

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest batsmen of all times, has just taken guard for yet another mesmerizing innings, this time in the cyber space. The batting maestro has joined Twitter, the micro blogging site.

Addressing the possible doubts among his fans about the chances of a fake Sachin, the Little Master said in his first tweet, “Finally the original SRT is on twitter n the first thing I'd like to do is wish my colleagues the best in the windies.”

A confirmation has come from India's fast bowler Zaheer Khan, who wrote on his twitter page, “Yes! Its true sachin tendulkar is on twitter on @sachin_rt.”

In a span of 12 hours and 11 tweets, around 28,000 people have started following Tendulkar. The number is fast moving up as an observation by CIOL has found an increase of about 2000 followers in 5 minutes.

The response to Sachin's twitter entry is obviously amazing. A fan wrote, " At the stroke of the midnight when most Indians were sleeping, Sachin joined Twitter.”

Even Tendulkar could not believe such a response, “Can't believe the response I got in such a short time.Had a wonderful dinner with my close friends tonight.The evening was superb.Goodnight,” he tweeted last night.

In the latest tweet, Tendulkar sought to allay the fans' concerns about his recent finger injury by saying, “Got stitches removed and the dr feels it will (take) some more time to recover . Will keep you posted on this.”

According to media reports, welcoming Tendulkar on Twitter, Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty said: "Finally on twitter, The God of cricket himself. A big welcome shout for SACHIN TENDULKAR himself @sachin_rt spread the word".

Sachin, who turned 37 in April, completed 20 years in the international cricket last November. In 166 Test matches he has garnered 13,447 runs at 55.56 per innings and in 442 ODIs he scored 17598 runs at an average of 45.12. He has also hit 93 international hundreds.
