Over the next 30 days, Mahan will visit all the S1 offices to see how the company could position itself in a better manner.

S1 works on solutions that address every market segment and delivery channel. Its solutions help integrate an institution's entire front office.

When asked why he had returned to take on an executive role, Mahan replied that the leadership change was necessary since the company's stock price had not appreciated and therefore it necessitated change. “It is a world of who today. The world today demands proof that you have better quality,” he explained.

S1 India is transitioning from a service center to a product development center that can take on a leadership role in the ownership of certain products.

Andrew Kass, senior vice president, product development & engineering with S1, said a capability matrix index had been created since the center has been doing a lot of projects in various areas. The matrix would identify the projects and expertise and identify the targets for taking ownership.

The India center has identified three target products, one of which involves porting activity for complete ownership. Kass who refused to give more details said the Indian center would evolve into a self-sustaining center of excellence with a set of products developed here.

“We are currently in the process of selecting the products that are appropriate. The company currently has 310 people in Pune and there are plans to take this number to 400 by the end of the year.”
