The European centre had been in the company’s plans for some time now after Christian Andre, president of Rohm Europe had made it public during November last year.

Powered by a small team comprising 15 employees, the new design center is expected to make for the European market, specific products, and also deal with project management and design-in support to customers in the region.

According to Michael Davis, technical director at Rohm Semiconductor GmbH, "the new design centre will significantly expand our scope in offering innovative integrated circuits that meet the requirements of our European customers and, by being close to the market, define and maintain the right product roadmap for the future."

The company has added in a statement that product development would focus on LCD and LED drivers, power management ICs, automotive technology, EEPROMs, sensors and solutions for general lighting applications.
