Robert Bosch India opens new Bangalore facility

BANGALORE: Germany-based engineering firm, Robert Bosch today opened its new facility here.

Dr Bernd Bohr, board member of the company inaugurated the new Robert Bosch India facility, which will cater to the development of technologies for both Bosch and its OEM customers.

The company has invested around Rs 850 million into the facility, which will house 2200 employees.

The new facility will be used to provide engineering and non-engineering services. These include electronic control unit development for automotive, industrial, consumer goods and building technology, and IT services, process consulting, mechanical engineering, IC design, shared services accounting and translation.

Highlighting the development activities at the new center, which is the second biggest facility for the company after Germany, Dr Walter Grote, MD, Robert Bosch India said, “ Out of 22,000 engineers worldwide in Bosch, around 3000 are in India. This center is of significant value to us.”

He also said that Bosch would set up a second facility in India, other than Bangalore this year.
The company has not yet zeroed in on the location. “ We want to have an alternative facility for risk mitigation purposes and also because we need to have internal competition for a captive center.”

Bosch is targeting a headcount of 6000, equally spread between the two facilities by 2010, from the current 3000.

Some of the development activities in Bangalore revolve around electronic control systems, car radios and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and cater to both global and emerging markets like India.
