Riverbed named mkt leader in WAN optimization

BANGALORE, INDIA: Riverbed Technology, an IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, announced on Wednesday that Gartner has identified the company as the WOC (WAN optimization controller) Advanced Platform (AP) worldwide market share leader for 1Q 2009 based on revenue.

According to Gartner’s July 2009 report titled 'Market Share: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide 1Q09', Riverbed sustained strong growth to maintain its lead with 31.4 per cent share. In the same report, Riverbed is named the market share leader in the WOC category with 24.2 per cent market share.

“Organizations of all sizes are working to build efficiency into their existing IT infrastructure while also embarking on cost-cutting initiatives such as bandwidth reduction, data center virtualization and branch IT consolidation,” said Eric Wolford, senior vice president, marketing and business development at Riverbed.

“Success requires an easy-to-install and manage WAN optimization solution that delivers up to 100X data and application acceleration to knowledge workers while standing up to the demands of the data center. Riverbed delivers on all fronts,” he added.

In a separate report 'Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controller (WOC), 2009', published by Gartner in June 2009, Riverbed was positioned in the leaders quadrant.

Riverbed WAN optimization solutions enable organizations of all sizes to overcome a wide range of IT infrastructure performance bottlenecks, including poor application performance, slow database backups and insufficient bandwidth at remote sites, said the release.

By speeding the performance of applications between data centers, remote offices and mobile workers by up to 100 times, the Riverbed award-winning Steelhead products enable companies to consolidate IT, improve backup and replication processes to ensure data integrity, and improve staff productivity and collaboration, it said.
