NEW DLHI: Rittal India has launched its software division under the name of its leading product range–EPLAN. Although Rittal India is headquartered in Bangalore, the software arm will be based in Mumbai under the aegis of Harish Nachnani, who will head the division as the Regional Sales Manager, EPLAN division. The EPLAN range of products comprise software that will help electrical engineers design their products. The products will be shipped from its development base in Germany although eventually the company will set up a center in India to customize the product. However, the company has ruled out any possibilities of setting up a software development base in the country.

Rittal, which is essentially into the business of manufacturing enclosures and cabinets for industrial houses, set up office in India in 1995 and began manufacturing from Bangalore in 1997. With its horizontal presence in the cabinet and enclosure segment, Rittal Worldwide, in a strategic move, acquired EPLAN a year ago to focus on vertical segments. Already with a substantial customer base among electrical companies, the EPLAN range of CAE products targeted at electrical software design engineers will complement Rittal’s existing business.

Rittal will distribute the EPLAN products through its partner, Topsys Solutions, which is based in Bangalore. It has been using EPLAN for a number of years and has the technical expertise to provide support for the product. The vertical industries that the EPLAN range of products such as EPLAN 5, EPLAN 21, and EPLAN Compact target include the car manufacturing segment, assembling facilities and the like.

With the price range starting from Rs 39,500, EPLAN Compact is the base product and has been specifically developed for the Indian market. It is ideal for smaller design projects and can generate up to 250 project pages or 40 schematic pages. The product can also be upgraded should the need arise. EPLAN 5 and EPLAN 21 are targeted at high-end customers. It enables a wide range of standard functions like automatic cross-referencing, wide range of symbols libraries, autoconnecting of symbols, online device and wire numbering. EPLAN 21 has a flexible structure called the API (Application Program Interface) that enables it to be applied at an international level covering various project-related requirements. Using this feature the product can be customized for which a center in India is on the anvil.
