RIM to tie smartphones to car navigation systems

OTTOWA,CANADA:Research in Motion (RIM), has searched for a way to tie their BlackBerry smartphones to car navigation systems, states a eCanadaNow report.

According to the report this became a reality after RIM signed with Harman International. The deal allows RIM to acquire the QNX Software Systems allowing the company to reach their objective. First the deal must be approved by the regulatory agencies. Terms of the deal were not announced. It is expected the deal will take up to 45 days to be completed.

RIM announced that the company looks forward to further working with Harman and QNX in the future. The new venture will allow for the user to have a wider experience between smartphones in relation to in-vehicle audio and other informational systems. RIM announced that the acquistion of QNX will add other values to their company by supporting product plans, to be announced in the future, for intelligent peripherals. In addition the company said all of this will add even greater intellectual property to their portfolio.

On the other side of the table Harmon announced they will continue their close relationship with QNX along with the cutting-edge software solution it provides to Harmon. The company is optimistic that their customers will support the move as well as see it as a big step in advancing intelligent devices.
