RIM segment on accelerated growth path: Pradeep Kar

BANGALORE, INDIA: In an interview with CIOL, Pradeep Kar, Chairman RIM forum, Chairman and MD, Microland, the growth of RIM segment in India and has been on an accelerated growth path in India and about the new age of intelligent and smart software that banks more on modeling and less on coding.

Q: What is the contribution of RIM in IT services revenues?

Pradeep Kar:Over the last five years, the RIM segment has been on an accelerated growth path in India growing at a CAGR of 50 per cent. This sector is estimated to have aggregated export revenues of US$4.3 billion and employs 90,000 people in FY 2010. It is estimated that by 2020 RIM can contribute more than a third of total IT services revenues for India.

Cloud Computing, virtualization, unified communication, green data centers are fast reshaping the technology infrastructure landscape and provide a unique opportunity for RIM providers in India to build unique offerings and new business models.

Q: What are the transformations that RIM can bring in the foreseeable future?

Pradeep Kar: Cloud, Mobility, Consumerization, Social Media, Big Data and Analytics - these are just a few transitions and trends affecting information technology architecture of organizations today.

The crystal ball gazing shows 2015 as the beginning of an age of intelligent and smart software that banks more on modeling and less on coding, information technology as a cheap utility, virtualized data centers, simple Internet devices delivering the most complex applications in ones hand.

Q: Can you tell us how the NASSCOM RIM Forum is helping the industry

Pradeep Kar: Over the last few years, the global RIM market has grown rapidly, creating significant opportunities for service providers. NASSCOM has been focusing on this growth sector, and partnering with the industry to create initiatives on growing this opportunity in the country.

Even a decade ago when Hotmail services were started cloud was not a hot topic of discussion. But, today, every other application is being built for the cloud. The NASSCOM RIM Forum led by industry leaders is focused on building India's leadership in the RIM space.

Q: What is idea behind NASSCOM Mobility and Cloud Summit 2012?

Pradeep Kar: Remote Infrastructure Management (RIM) has already emerged as one of the fastest growing segments in the India IT outsource industry . This also one segment that needs desired focus.

The Mobility and Cloud 2012 Summit is all about strengthening the foundation of the RIM in India, increase dialogue with the education security as there is need for new breed of talent and involve stake holders in dialogue concerning the security policies
