DataViz develops Microsoft Office-compatible software for mobile devices, including BlackBerry and rivals such as Apple's iPhone and phones running on Google's Android operating system.

Milford, Connecticut-based DataViz said recently it would not produce a Web OS version of Documents To Go. Web OS is the operating system used on Palm devices.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM did not disclose the terms of the deal, which it said was not material to RIM in the context of the company's financial results. RIM will release its second-quarter results on September 16.
