Reliance supports free mobile roaming

NEW DELHI, INDIA: As the subscribers are eagerly waiting to avail nationwide free roaming service, CDMA major Reliance Communications has said that as a part of National Telecom Policy 2012, it support this ambitious initiative.

Speaking on the sidelines of press event in New Delhi yesterday, Reliance Communications president and CEO of Wireless Business Gurdeep Singh said that they uphold free roaming. "As a part of new NTP, we are eagerly waiting for it to see the light of the day," Singh said.

Meanwhile, telecom department's top official R Chandrashekhar told CIOL that free roaming would remain the target for 2013. "We can't put precise timeline to it, but it will be implemented in the current year," Chandrashekhar added.

Reliance has also stated that it might increase voice call rates in the next 12 to 18 months, in order to sustain its business. The price correction, the company said, would be to maintain profit trajectory.
