The company had earlier announced to start GSM operations in Delhi and Mumbai. It had initially planned to add between 10-12 million GSM lines with an estimated investment of over Rs 1500 crore, to expand its services in eight locations.

However, according to industry sources, the company is planning for a mega GSM expansion of 75 million GSM lines across the country. The Reliance GSM mobile service is available across Eastern India.

“Reliance is not shifting from its CDMA space to GSM but is expanding its services to other circles,” industry sources said. Reliance officials denied any developments regarding announcing the 75 million GSM lines.

However, the expansion of the GSM service would entirely depend on the availability and allocation of spectrum by the Department of Telecom (DoT). In June this year the company has moved DoT for allocation of 4.4 Mhz spectrum.
