BANGALORE: Reliance Infocomm has announced the launch of a calling plan with Reliance fixed wireless phone (FWP), which enables users to make unlimited free calls to Reliance phones anywhere in India. The cost of the new cordless LG FWP is Rs 4,300 inclusive of installation charges of Rs 800. The plan comes with a monthly commitment of Rs 700 for postpaid customers or with a recharge voucher (RCV) of Rs 770 for prepaid customers.

Launching the scheme in Bangalore, Reliance wireless products and services president SP Shukla said, "This is the first time in the country that a subscriber gets to make unlimited calls anywhere on a prepaid product on fixed phones." He also added that Reliance is planning to target the fixed line base in India and would focus on home consumers, corporate as well as small businesses.

Speaking on the company's target for this new line, Shukla said, "When we said we would have 10 million mobile subscribers, no one believed us. We want to achieve the same thing with the FWP as well."

He said that the company had tied up with LG (phone model LSI 110) for the FWP initially, and would tie-up with other phone vendors soon. The phone can also be used as a modem for Internet access with download speeds of around 144 kbps. Other features include SMS, phone book, voice mail, polyphonic ring tones, call history, digital display and call conferencing.

When asked about highly subsidized nature of the plan, Shukla clarified, "This is not a seasonal promotion but a regular fixed plan. We believe that to reach out to the wide market, we need to provide affordable solutions."
