In what could be India's biggest data breach ever, a website named Magicapk.com has surfaced online with personal information details of Reliance Jio customers. While the site has now been suspended, the telco which has over 120 million users in India, said prima facie the data seemed to be unauthentic and it was investigating the “unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website.”

The breach was first reported by Fonearena.com after some people complained on Twitter about personal information of Jio users being publicly available on Magicapk.com. While Reliance Jio is calling the information inauthentic, many publications claim to have tested the veracity of data and found it to be true. Though the scale of the breach is still unknown, worryingly, if some people's Aadhaar data has also been compromised, it could be the beginning of much worse to come.

It remains unclear who is behind the alleged breach, though the IP address behind the Magicapk.com website is Mumbai-based, according to public information on domain registrars.

In a statement, a Reliance Jio spokesperson said, "We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.”
