Reliance Jio achieves 1GBPS speed after 5G trials in partnership with Qualcomm

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Reliance Jio Platforms along with its wholly-owned subsidiary Radisys Corporation today announced their expanded efforts to develop open and interoperable interface compliant architecture based 5G solutions with a virtualized RAN. In a statement, the company has stated that this work intends to fast track the development; roll-out of indigenous 5G network infrastructure and services in India.

The companies, in trials, have achieved over 1 Gbps speed on the Jio 5GNR solution. They have leveraged the Qualcomm® 5G RAN Platforms. Further, this achievement supports Jio's 5G credentials. It also signifies the entry of Jio and India into the Gigabit 5G NR product portfolio. The platforms offer scalable support for a wide range of infrastructure categories ranging from macro base stations with massive MIMO to small cells. It also features support for all key frequency bands on sub-6 GHz and mmWave spectrum.

Reliance Jio on 5G

With 5G, users will experience the benefits of higher data speeds; low latency communications and also enhanced digital experiences across a wide array of connected devices; from 5G-enabled smartphones to enterprise laptops to AR/VR products to vertical IoT solutions. “Jio is ready with a world-class 5G solution. Field deployment can happen next year. This 5G product will be available for trials as soon as the spectrum is available. Jio Platforms will be positioned for 5G solution to other telecom operators," Ambani said at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of RIL in July.

Jio is also in partnership with Google where it is developing affordable 4G and 5G Android smartphones. This development could bring cheap smartphones to hundreds of millions of Indians and undercut dominant vendors from China.

Qualcomm on 5G

Durga Malladi, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice-President for 4G and 5G, said the US company recently achieved the milestone of over 1 Gbps milestone on the Reliance Jio 5G NR product using Qualcomm 5G RAN platforms. “We look forward to expanding our efforts with Reliance Jio to enable flexible and scalable 5G RAN deployment,” he said.

Qualcomm also explained that this expansion of the 5G network will be based on its portfolio of 5G RAN platforms designed to provide a foundation for flexible, virtualized, scalable, and interoperable cellular network infrastructure.
