HYDERABAD: After Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Reliance
Communications today launched its joint programme with Intel in Andhra
Pradesh that would provide Internet connectivity to Tier II and Tier III cities
in the State.
The telecom giant will roll out the offer in association with genuine Intel
dealers in the State who would act as point of sale dealers. Reliance wireless
products and enabling Internet connectivity would be offered to users purchasing
PCs from these dealers.
The programmes covers cities such as Warangal, Tirupati, Tanuku, Rajahmundry,
Ongole, Nizamabad, Nellore, Eluru, Karnool, Karimnagar, Kakinada, Guntur and
Anantapur.
``With our Phase II network expansion underway, we are covering the interiors of
India and this tie-up will boost the rural and small town economy by increasing
Internet penetration. We are looking at Tier II and Tier III cities as the top
30 cities wouldn't give us more business," Inder Bajaj, head (Post-Paid
Business), Reliance Communications.
Reliance plans to introduce similar services in other parts of the country.
Using the Reliance Netconnect service platform, the programme offers a download
speed of 144 kbps. Reliance mobile handsets can be used as wireless modems for
access to the Internet from PCs, laptops and hand-held devices.
Surendra Kumar Arora, director, India South Asia (Customer Solutions Group)
said, "Our collaboration with Reliance would enable high speed Internet
connectivity at affordable rates through our channel partner network in the C
and D class cities."
R Balachandran, CEO Reliance Communications, Andhra Pradesh, said, "Andhra
Pradesh has demand for internet access in Tier II and Tier III cities. The
combination of telecom infra and Internet access is critical."
The collaboration with Intel will drive Internet usage in the State, added
Balachandran.
