MUMBAI, INDIA: Reliance Infratel president and CEO SP Shukla resigned from the company “to embark on the next leg of his journey through professional career and life”. The resignation came to effect on May 31.

In the recent times a couple of top executives, Arun Sur and Jagbir Singh, had left the Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications to pursue new opportunities.

Though Shukla did not tell anything about his future plans, it is being rumoured that he may join Aircel or Huawei.

He said the decision has nothing to do with the company and the decision to leave is purely personal.

An old-timer at Reliance Infra, Shukla said in an email that he “was fortunate to have seen the sector grow from scratch, when no roof tops had yet been rented for the towers, and no electronics or handsets had yet been ordered in India.”

He noted that during those days it was just two mobile licensees each in the 4 metros, all busy strategizing as to how to go about setting up an altogether new industry.
