NEW DELHI: Relativity Technologies, Inc., a provider of legacy to e-business solutions, and NIIT Limited, have announced a global strategic alliance which will enable traditional businesses to quickly modernize legacy applications and transform them into net-enabling technologies. According to a release, the partnership will address the complex needs of today's "brick and mortar" companies as they look to transform and integrate their legacy applications with the Internet.

"NIIT and Relativity are focused on creating new market opportunities for traditional brick and mortar companies," said Relativity Technologies CEO Vivek Wadhwa. "Working closely with NIIT, we can provide these corporations with an effective transformation solution speedily as they look to integrate their legacy business processes with the world of e-commerce and net-enabling technologies."

The combined expertise of both companies provides businesses with a joint offering not currently available within a single company and will enable the alliance partners to address the e-transformation opportunity worldwide. The e-transformation market opportunity is huge, for e.g. IDC estimates nearly 200 billion lines of COBOL code are in production for commercial data processing systems at present. Gartner estimates that 85 per cent of existing applications will migrate to a form of client/server through the use of Frontware, partial rewrites, salvaging or complete replacement. To meet this requirement NIIT has established an e-transformation practice which will incorporate Relativity's RescueWare as the core technology. NIIT has also setup a Centre of Competence in the area of e-transformation in India.
