Redington organizes Digital Expo 2008

CHENNAI, INDIA: Redington provided a platform to vendors and channel to showcase their products at the Digital Expo 2008.

The event was held at Chennai Trade Center from May 16 to 18, 2008.

There were nearly 80 stalls put up by the channel partners, which displayed various products including desktops, laptops, peripherals, consumer electronics, software products, networking products, multimedia CDs for computer literacy and mobile phones to name a few.

The three-day event saw a footfall of 10,000-plus visitors. Both vendors and channel saw this event as an opportunity to interact with the customers and discussed the not-so-happening business during this season.

Ramesh Natarajan, head—marketing and sales, Indian operation, Redington India said, “One of the major aims of this expo is to boost the sales of the vendors and channel partners during this slow period that the total industry is witnessing today.”

Inaugurating the expo, Tamil Nadu information minister Parithi Iilamvazhuthi said, “Such exhibitions provide an opportunity for companies to showcase their products and help in making the public aware of the latest products available in the market.”

Speaking on the occasion, R Ravichandran, director, South Asia, Intel said, “Though IT and its usage is making a commendable progress in the country, to be viable and competitive in the global markets, the software and computer penetration has to increase considerably in India.”

He also said that for the effective spread of IT usage, computing devices must be made more accessible and cheaper.

PS Neogi, president, Redington India was also present during the occasion.

Natarajan informed that Redington has planned to conduct similar exhibitions across the country.

“We started this exhibition in Chennai, since we are based out of here. We will replicate the same in other major cities and upcountry regions across the country,” he said.

TP Sridevi, marketing manager, Redington India said, “Digital Expo, Redington’s first initiative in marketing was a huge success and was able to meet its objective of providing a cost-effective platform to its vendors and dealers in promoting their products.”

She attributed the success of the event to the overwhelming participation from almost all major vendors and dealers of Redington.

She informed that the exhibitors expressed their satisfaction and are looking forward to their participation in the events to come. “Being the first venture of its kind, we are satisfied and overwhelmed with the response from all our stakeholders,” Sridevi claimed.

On company’s plan in taking forward the success of the exhibition, she said, “We are determined to provide our complete support to manufacturers and retailers by providing value addition in distribution through many such novel initiatives in future. These initiatives are sure to rekindle the demand of IT products in India and give further fillip to even green IT industry. With all these efforts, we are sure to redefine the definition of distribution.”
