MUMBAI: Rediff.com has launched a new service 'Rediffmail mobile'. With this, users can check mail on mobile phone through WAP or SMS. Jasmeet Singh Gandh, Vice- President, Strategic Services, Rediff, said, "This new service will revolutionize the mail service. We are continuously adding value for our customers so that they can get maximum benefit of their money." Rediffmail Mobile will give a 10 MB account with which a user can send attachments up to 5 MB with each message.

Also, a user can pull in mail from other POP3 accounts like office e-mail into Rediffmail and import addresses from Outlook Address Book into their Rediffmail address book. Users can also forward mail from their Rediffmail account to any other POP3 account, whether Web-based or on Outlook Express.

On the mobile, a user can do everything that he can do on Rediffmail on a PC. If a user connects it with WAP phone he can use it like he does on his PC through a browser. Otherwise, he can work through SMS. The user has to login by sending an SMS to 7333. This number will work all across India, as long as your cellular operator has tied up with Rediffmail for this service. After this, in reply he will get the number of messages in your Inbox, the subject and sender name of the first four mails. One can choose to read, forward, reply or delete these by sending SMS each time to the same number.

People can send the reply to the user's message and he can access it from his mobile or on Web-based account. Not only Rediffmail but even mail from other accounts that a user has chosen, can be pulled into Rediff and can be read from his mobile. A user can logout after he is through, or choose to remain connected, in which case his login will remain for seven days.

Another useful feature is setting alerts. If a user is expecting important mail, he can go to his Rediffmail account, give the e-mail ID of the sender and the number on which he want the alert. When he get e-mail from that ID, an alert will pop on his mobile, with instructions on how to read the mail.

User can also send SMS through your Rediffmail account to any mobile number. The recipient of the message can reply by sending an SMS to 7333. Rediffmail also offers an integrated contact list where one can enter people based on their Rediff Bol IDs, e-mail IDs, or mobile numbers.

Apart from mobile access, the Web-based account has also become snazzier and easier to use. One can now send formatted e-mail where all fonts and styles like bold, italic or underline are preserved. There's help available at every step.

Also a user can download a small client on the desktop, from where he can check mail without even opening the browser and logging into your account. If he has configured other mail on Rediff, he can check that from here too.

The subscription cost of this service is Rs 349 a year, with which he can send 100 SMS messages from the PC to his or any other mobile in that. Beyond this, a user can buy SMSs in lots of 200, 300 or 500, at a price of approximately 75 paisa per message. A user has to pay separately for any message he sends from his mobile. If the cost will be paid to Rediffmail by credit card, another 50 SMSs will be free for a user.

Rediffmail has tied up with most of the major service providers in the country to provide mobile access to e-mail which include Aircel, Airtel, BPL Mobile, Command, Essar Cellphone, Hutch, Idea, Reliance Mobile, RPG Cellular, and Spice. Tie-up with Orange is expected within a week.
