How to download receipts of donations made to PM CARES Fund to avail 80G tax deduction?

The PM CARES Fund initiative started with the noble intention of helping the cause of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. It received an overwhelming response. Various sources cited that the PM CARES Fund collected Rs 6500 crore within the first week alone. But several controversies surrounded the fund as citizens wanted to know how to download the fund receipt, and know the fund allocation.

If you have made a donation to PM CARES Fund, you are eligible to 100% deduction under Section 80G of Income Tax. For payments made through various methods such as Paytm, Google Pay, SBI, ICICI, etc, users can now obtain receipts against their payments. Till date, users were not sure if the donation was eligible under 80G as the receipts did not state the same. Also, it made available only receipts for payments via the fund official website. Now, the latest receipts state the deduction applicability as well as download receipt for all kinds of payments.

Here's how to download your receipt for contributions made to the PM CARES Fund

1. Payments made via Paytm or UPI like Google Pay, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, BHIM

A majority of the donors who have donated through UPI modes such as Google Pay, PayTM, PhonePe, Amazon Pay and others have received a payment receipt through their email addresses. Therefore, donors need to ensure that the correct email address is provided to receive the payment receipts. But this was not the receipt that you could use for tax deductions.

Now, go to the Official Website of the fund. Click on the mode of UPI Payment you chose. For Paytm, you can get receipts for all donations made till November 6. For other UPI donations, till November 9.

After you have clicked the link, enter your mobile number and the Reference number (or Payment ID) available on the payment app. You will then receive an OTP. Upon entering it, you will be able to see a receipt that looks like this.

The receipt has your PAN Number, details of the account used, and a notification that you are eligible for 100% Section 80G deduction irrespective of the amount.

For other bank accounts

The process to avail the PM CARES Fund receipts under direct bank payments is the same. Key in your Mobile Number (used to make the transaction) and Bank Reference Number (RRN) (received SMS/Email after making the transaction) to receive OTP to validate this information and generate the receipt.

You can attach this receipt on your tax files.
