BANGALORE: The dotcom phenomenon has come down, there has been a decline in
the forecasted spending on IT systems and infrastructure and the smaller
companies business model is under tremendous pressure. The real storm is here!
In a scenario like this how should an organization move up the value chain?
Basically there are five phases of e-biz as of now e-marketing, ecommerce,
e-re-engineering, e-CRM and e-collaboration. This apart there is one more area,
which is coming up fast and that is e-knowledge management. "E-markets have
matured to a good extent now and what we need is to re-engineer our existing
processes to reap the benefits of this scenario," said Wipro Infotech Ltd.
vice president Anurag Mehrotra. He was in Bangalore to participate in ebiz India
2001, a national conference on e-business and e-commerce.
To withstand this current situation, enterprises will have to shift their
focus from top- line sales to bottom line cost savings. In a situation like
this, one will have to customize services for the customers and the key would
lie on how one does that. "The primary issue today is to gain customer
loyalty once you have done that your success is for sure," he added.
He also expressed his opinion on the e-collaboration front saying that it is
also one of the areas, which is going to help organizations with-stand tough
times like this. "Creative collaborative transactions or e-collaboration is
going to provide a stable platform for small and medium sized organizations to
overcome this scenario, Cisco and Dell have already done that and there is an
increased demand for collaboration in this segment," he added.
E-knowledge management is another area coming up fast in this ever changing
IT scenario. "This is going to give an organization the much needed cutting
edge as it will help them to build competitive advantage with skills and
creative intelligence and it will become an important aspect as we move along in
time," he explained.
